About Anya

My name is Anya.
I am a visual artist by profession with a long experience in learning and teaching whether it is languages or art.
I was born in France in a Russian family. We spoke Russian at home, and French outside.
I studied drama in Paris, where I worked as an actress for 10 years. I then studied Psychology and Screenwriting at University College London, Birkbeck College. In London I taught French in schools as a French Assistante, and gave 1 to 1 tuition for a native speakers agency.
I later lived in Italy, then back in France, where as a visual artist I have 16 years of experience teaching classes and giving workshops to children and adults alike.
I now in Costa Rica.
I speak Spanish, English or French throughout the day, according to whom I meet.
As you can see, learning langages is something I understand !
My passions are art, travels and nature... but being forever curious of life in general !

About the lesson

Hi !
We always start with practical situations where you might find yourself into. We build the necessary vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and grammatical points so you can get by in those real life situations.
For beginners we start with simple, everyday life situations and work on your speaking, listening and, if you wish, writing skills through fun exercises.
For more advanced students, we choose conversational topics of your interest. During the conversation, I note the weak points and we then study them. Again I want it to be practical and useful for your particular needs.
At all levels, for your writing skills, I often ask my students to write a little diary, whether real or fictionnal, it doesn’t take long, 5 to 10 mns a day, but it is good to stay in touch with the language in between the lessons, and in the same manner we then study your entries and see what’s to be improved.
For the listening skills and cultural aspects I also share some fun exercices material that you can do in your own time or with me.
I speak French, English, Russian, Spanish and have some good understanding of Italian. Learning languages has always been part of my life, so it is an experience I fully understand.
I understand how awkward you can feel at times, and how wonderful it feels when you finally manage to put a sentence together, then start mastering the language and can finally communicate with people, understand what’s going on, or even sometimes understanding your other half !
On top of learning languages, I also taught French for 6 years in London, as a French Assistante in schools and gave 1 to 1 tuition for a native speakers agency.
Now, I am a visual artist by profession, and I have been giving classes and workshops for 16 years to children and adults alike.
All these diverse learning and teaching experiences have led me to understand the diverse needs, rythms and aims of each student.
