About Josh
About six years ago I began teaching music when I interned at the Band Aid School of Music in Austin. I now have a degree in Management from Tulane, where I continued to pursue jazz studies and music production, and performed with my band around New Orleans. I've been blessed with many great mentors along the way, and I now enjoy teaching friends, family or anyone who wants to learn guitar, singing or about music in general.

My teaching method is based on exercises and concepts that I found most helpful when I first began learning music. I tend to split each class into two parts. First, we'll pick a guitar playing technique (i.e. picking, scales, chords) or a basic element of music (i.e. harmony, octaves, listening) to focus on. Then we will apply what we learn to a song or style of music that the student is interested in. Through my experience I recognize the importance of keeping the learning process relaxed, interesting and fun. Skills such as reading difficult music, I believe, come easier to students if they are already comfortable with and excited about playing their instrument. I will provide fun exercises to practice at home and may ask for students to bring in a song or two they're interested in learning to each lesson. My methodology tends to vary slightly depending on the students ability or prior knowledge.
