I love singing and creating music and I want to share my love for music with my community. I want my students to love their instrument as much as I do and that's why I strive to create a customized learning environment for each of my students so that they will get the most out of lessons as well as having fun. I strive to ensure that my students are enjoying themselves, enjoying the music they’re creating, all while being pushed to try new things. I ensure that all of my students have the tools they need to be successful by using real world examples.
Lora Sherrodd is a jazz vocalist from Laramie, Wyoming. Sherrodd is a recent graduate from the University of Wyoming where she studied jazz voice earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in jazz and a minor in African American and Diaspora Studies. She is currently a graduate student attending Temple University, working towards her M.M in Jazz Studies.
Sherrodd has had the opportunity to perform with many notable musicians such as Nate Werth at Dazzle in Denver with the University Of Wyoming Steel Pan Band, Greg Osby with the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble, and Terrell Stafford at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola with the Wyoming Jazz Ensemble in New York City.
Sherrodd is featured on a number of recordings. She is featured on the University of Wyoming's Winds of the Snowy's, All In by John May and her latest release, 287, which is a collection of arrangements of jazz standards and original music. One of the recordings from her recent record has earned Sherrodd a 2019 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Award for outstanding jazz vocal solo.
Lora Sherrodd is not only a phenomenal performer but also an amazing teacher. Her performing experience (gigging as a band leader for her jazz quartet, big band guest vocalist, back up vocalist, studio work, etc.) is extensive, and really gives her the edge that other educators lack to be as helpful as possible for developing students. Her understanding of the instrument has really taken her very far in terms of vocal ability as well as within the professional world of teaching. I have seen her with her students, and her ability to connect with the students professionally while making them feel comfortable, and develop a very organized and specific lesson for each individual student is astounding. You can’t go wrong with Lora Sherrodd, apart from already being at the top of her game, she continues to grow herself, and that’s an important trait to have as a teacher, because when one continues to develop their craft, they stay excited and playful with what they’re teaching.
