Vocalist with 6 years of experience gives lessons to new and intermediate singers

Methodology

My teaching method combines Linklater work, breathing work and traditional vocalizing scales in order to improve agility, air support and range. I then use some time out of each lesson to work on the style that the student is seeking to improve in.

Background

I am an actress and a musician. I have a music duo called On Fifth with which I have performed at venues all over San Diego playing covers and original music. I am also a recent graduate from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in theatre.

Fedra's resume

I am a recent graduate from UCSD with a BA in theatre and a cumulative GPA of 3.65. Here, I studied voice with Ursula Meyer, learning the Linklater "method" to freeing the voice which uses breath and physical work among other things to create an easy and unrestricted sound. I have also been trained as a vocalist by Carolee Thornburgh who uses mostly placement and technique of bel canto in order to increase range, agility and healthy singing placement.

As your vocal coach, my goal is to help you find your voice in a vocally healthy way. We will go over vocal health, a bit of anatomy and music theory.

As a professional musician, I have been performing on diverse San Diego stages from House of Blues to Lestat's and Java Joe's for the past 6 years. I personally connect more to popular music (folk, classic rock, jazz, and blues) since that is what I enjoy playing. I am also very familiar with musical theatre since I am a theatre major. However, I love all types of music, and would be more than happy to help you free your voice in the style you choose. I will not try to make your voice sound a certain way, but rather give you the tools to experiment and have a strong foundation for whatever styles move you.
