About Ken
About Me: Ken Cole
My journey with water safety began early on—I learned to swim at 4 and started my first lifeguard position at just 14, with my parents’ support. I’ll never forget my first rescue: I was off-duty, fully dressed in jeans, my new Jordans, and my phone in my pocket. Without a second thought, I jumped in to save a patron. That experience confirmed what I already knew—I’m passionate about keeping people safe in the water, and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to help others enjoy it confidently. Not even my cell phone could stop me that day, and it’s a passion I carry into every lesson I teach.
Teaching swimming is about more than just helping people learn strokes; it’s about watching them gain a new sense of confidence and comfort in the water. There’s no feeling like seeing the switch flip in a student’s eyes when they realize they’ve mastered something new. I live for those moments, and I’m here to guide each swimmer on their journey, age, or experience.

About My Lessons
My lessons are designed to meet each student’s unique needs and goals, with a strong foundation in water safety. Regardless of age or skill level, I start every lesson by focusing on basic water safety principles to ensure each swimmer feels secure and confident. From there, I tailor each session to the student’s specific abilities and aspirations, whether they’re a beginner learning the basics, an intermediate swimmer improving their technique, or someone preparing for open-water conditions, like those in the untameable ocean.
I take a student-centered approach, emphasizing adaptability and safety throughout. With younger swimmers, I make lessons fun and engaging, often incorporating humor, like a good “Dad joke,” to keep them relaxed and enjoying the experience. For those with specific needs, such as deaf students, I use basic sign language, visual cues, and signals to ensure clear communication, and I welcome interpreters to join when needed.
I’m open to teaching anyone who wants to gain skills or build confidence in the water. From children and teens to adults, I’m here to help you or your child not only become a stronger swimmer but also feel at home in any aquatic environment. Whether it’s refining strokes, building endurance, or overcoming a fear of open water, I’m dedicated to helping my students succeed.
