About Arnold
Hi there! I’m Arnold Liu. I am a Management Engineering student at the University of Waterloo and a former Tutor at Kumon. I specialize in helping Grade 11 and 12 students master Calculus, Vectors, Advanced Functions, and Physics. Having successfully navigated the competitive university admissions process myself, I understand exactly what top schools like Waterloo and UofT are looking for. I don't just teach the material; I bridge the gap between high school curriculum and university expectations. My background includes: Professional Experience: As a Data Analyst for Burlington Transit, I use math in the real world every day, which allows me to explain abstract concepts with practical examples. Teaching Experience: My time at Kumon taught me how to adapt my teaching style to different learning speeds and personalities. I am passionate about helping students in Burlington not only improve their grades but also build the confidence and study habits needed to succeed in their future engineering or science degrees. Let’s work together to crush your academic goals!

My teaching philosophy combines the rigorous problem-solving standards of Waterloo Engineering with the structured patience I developed during my years as a Kumon Tutor. I believe that excelling in high school math and physics isn't just about memorizing formulas—it is about mastering the underlying logic and building the "mental stamina" required for university-level work. My Methodology & What Sets Me Apart: Unlike standard tutors who simply check homework, I teach with an "Engineering Mindset." We don't just solve the problem; we break it down to its first principles so you understand why the solution works. My goal is to mentor students not only on the subject matter but also on the study habits and time-management systems required to survive competitive programs like Waterloo Engineering. A Typical Lesson Plan: Concept Review (10 mins): We clarify any confusion from class notes to ensure the theoretical foundation is solid. Guided Practice (25 mins): We work through problems together using a "scaffolding" technique—gradually removing support until the student is solving independently. The "University Challenge" (20 mins): I introduce exam-style questions that are slightly harder than the textbook to ensure the student is over-prepared for their actual tests. Wrap Up (5 mins): Summary of key takeaways and a specific plan for the week ahead. My sessions are specifically designed for Grade 11 and 12 students in Ontario who are aiming for high-performance university programs in Engineering, Computer Science, or related programs. If you are looking to bridge the gap between high school grades and university expectations, I am here to help you get there.
