About John

I'm inspired by the moments of discovery and growth that can occur when two people focus their attention we have task together. True learning isn't just about working hard (though that usually helps). It's also about getting the right kind of guidance from an experienced mentor at the right time. I'm here to provide that.

My approach will always be personalized and specific to your own needs and interests. Together, we will determine your level of proficiency and develop a specific plan based on your goals and the topics that interest you.

About the lesson

I have a PhD in English Composition and TESOL, and I've spent more than twenty years in US higher education, teaching English and working with student writers. I also specialize in personalized, one-to-one learning strategies. So when you work with me, you can be assured that you'll have a knowledgeable and supportive mentor.

I believe that language learning only happens in the context of real, meaningful interactions, so all instruction with me will be interactive — and conveyed in English!

I can help you improve your language skills in any of the following ways:

Developing conversational English
Building vocabulary and knowledge of grammar
Preparing for exams
Practicing English for specific purposes (for the workplace, for travel, for presentations, etc.)

In particular, as a native speaker living in the US, I can be a helpful guide for understanding American culture.
