About

My name is Nick Romanelli, better known as Nick Romi and I have been working in the photography/film industry for the past 7 years. My company Nick Romi Photography specializes in High Fashion and Street photography while my full time job at Film Solutions, as an account manager & social media coordinator specializes in still photographer for television/film. I have been published in over 20 international fashion magazines and have worked on over 700 movies/tv shows for clients such as Netflix, Disney, Universal Studios, Sony, Marvel, Paramount, Lionsgate, A24 and more.

I started my career filming/photographing punk rock and metal bands in New England before I moved to Japan to tour with punk bands and direct the documentary Danger Boys: Punks in Osaka. Shortly after I moved out to Los Angeles where I worked at Sumerian Records as an in house photographer/videographer, XLNT Studios as the in house photographer and Discovery Channel's Motor Trend as a video editor.

My career highlights include 20+ publications, credits in the Disney book/documentary One Day at Disney and the official photo editor for the 92nd Academy Awards (2020 Oscars).

I hope to share my wealth of knowledge and insight in the photography/entertainment industry, ranging from starting out, trying to make photography a career, working at a record label, working at a large entertainment company and working as a photography for film/television, high fashion or any other sort.

I started teaching when I worked at Film Solutions. I became friends a professor at California State Polytechnic University who gave me the opportunity to mentor his students on film photography and marketing.

I have worked in photography and film professionally for the past 7 years. I was initially self taught and through experience I worked my way into touring with bands internationally, working at a record label, recording studio and Discovery Channel.

Once I started working at Film Solutions as an account manager for still photography on motion pictures and television, I was trained by the Photography Director at 20th Century Fox Studios and veteran still photographer Alex Bailey.

About the lesson

Whenever I am teaching a new student I always start at a personal level. It's important to know who I am teaching, what their interests/goals are and what method they best retain information through. Students will get to know myself and my story as I would also get to know them. I am incredibly passionate about film/photography and what I do for a living. My goal is to make the new student as comfortable as possible and share their passions with me as I help them to grow in their field and accomplish their dreams!

I've typically worked with college students ranging from 18 years old to 26 years old.

Make sure you find someone that you can connect with on a personal level. I strongly believe you learn best when your walls are completely down. When you're comfortable you absorb more information and are able to tap into true passion and drive. If you can fully connect with your teacher, you can fully dive into your passion!

A year ago I had the honor of being the photo editor for the 92nd Academy Awards (2020 Oscars). My job was to select the best photos taken at the event that would be released to the public and press for all media purposes. I was part of the fastest Oscars Photo Team in the history of the awards show. We were exactly 10 minutes behind the live event for the duration of the ceremony.

You must have a reason for taking a lesson. By taking the lesson, what do you hope to gain?

When you set short term goals, you reward yourself with small milestones. This helps in your education and experience, as well as boosts your moral and confidence in your career. Only through short term goals can you eventually achieve the long term goals.
