About Maya
Having spent eight enriching years immersed in the world of guitar education, working with over 300 unique students, I have come to deeply understand that each individual's relationship with the guitar and with music itself is a profoundly personal and evolving journey. My teaching philosophy is therefore centered on a highly flexible and adaptive framework that evolves in direct response to your current proficiency, your individual learning style, and the specific musical genres and artists that ignite your passion and curiosity. Whether you are embarking on the exciting initial steps of mastering basic chord progressions, delving into the rich textures and melodic possibilities of fingerpicking techniques, or tackling the intricate technical and improvisational demands of advanced soloing, I meticulously calibrate the pace, the content, and the pedagogical approaches of our lessons to foster continuous improvement, a deeper understanding of musical concepts, and a more profound connection with the music you play and wish to create. With eight years dedicated to guitar instruction and having guided over 300 students, I've cultivated a teaching style that blends structured learning with personalized exploration. I firmly believe that a strong foundation in music theory is essential for any aspiring guitarist, providing the framework for understanding harmony, melody, and rhythm. However, I also understand the importance of making learning enjoyable and relevant to each student's musical tastes. Whether a student is drawn to the energy of rock, the soulful melodies of jazz, or the intricate fingerpicking of folk, I incorporate their preferred genres into our lessons.
I place a strong emphasis on developing proper technique, ensuring efficient and injury-free playing habits. Furthermore, I encourage students to develop their own musical voice, providing opportunities for improvisation and creative expression. Witnessing a student gain confidence in their playing and discover their unique musical identity is the most rewarding aspect of my work.
