About Janina

Solving the singular obstacle hindering a player requires a deeply observant ear and a flexible teaching spirit. I did not begin my own path with the violin, entering the field long after establishing a life in an entirely different sector. This history allows me to empathize with adult career changers who navigate the technical hurdles of scales, arpeggios, and precise tone production.

My training at the University of Michigan School of Music informs how I approach left hand agility and posture. I refine the bow hold to ensure comfort during complex spiccato or staccato passages. Teaching is a practice of untangling knots rather than imposing a single rigid framework. I often find that quiet reflection helps me connect with the unique musical voice of those I mentor.

About the lesson

Feeling stuck on a specific technical passage is often just a matter of alignment. Since I hold a DMA from the University of Michigan, I treat the instrument as a physical puzzle to be solved through logic and art.

My 6 years of experience as an ASTA and MTNA competition coach means I provide custom scale and etude sheets for each student. Posture, hold, and the nuance of bowing technique form the foundation of our work together.

We will examine the mechanics of your spiccato to ensure the motion feels natural rather than forced. Precision in the left hand comes from mindful practice sessions that prioritize long term health. Whether you aim for state finals or personal growth, we will dismantle the barriers currently standing in your way. Clarity in the basics remains the most efficient route toward your artistic objectives.
