About McGinnis

I help college students navigate investment banking recruiting, from figuring out where to start to preparing for interviews and landing competitive offers.

I grew up in a small town without many connections in finance, so I know what it's like to approach recruiting without a clear roadmap. I eventually graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University with a degree in Finance.

During college, I interned in investment banking at Houlihan Lokey, where I earned a full-time return offer. I also gained experience at boutique investment bank Taylor Advisory and in credit risk at RBC Capital Markets.

Rather than returning to banking, I chose to pursue my passion for coaching at Scholars of Finance, a national nonprofit that develops undergraduate students into leaders in finance.

I've directly coached dozens of students and led recruiting and professional development sessions for hundreds more. Students I've worked with have gone on to firms including Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Guggenheim, and Bank of America.
I've seen how much of a difference the right guidance can make, especially for students who don't have an established network or know where to begin.

My goal is to help you understand the recruiting process, avoid common mistakes, and build a strategy that gives you the best chance of succeeding.

I offer one-on-one coaching for college students pursuing investment banking internships and full-time analyst positions.

Whether you're just exploring the industry, struggling to get interviews, or preparing for recruiting, we'll focus on what will make the biggest difference for you.

Here's what I can help you with:

1. Recruiting Strategy

Build a clear plan for investment banking recruiting, including target firms, recruiting timelines, applications, networking priorities, and where to focus your efforts.

2. Resume & LinkedIn

Improve your resume and LinkedIn profile, strengthen your bullet points, and learn how to present your experience in a way that stands out to recruiters.

3. Networking

Learn how to connect with investment bankers, write effective cold emails, prepare for networking calls, and build relationships that can lead to recruiting opportunities.

4. Behavioral Interviews

Prepare for questions like "Walk me through your resume" and "Why investment banking?" through mock interviews, personalized feedback, and practice telling your story naturally and confidently.

I specialize in behavioral and fit interviews, not technical interview preparation.

5. Internship & Return-Offer Preparation

Learn how to make a strong impression during your internship, communicate professionally, build relationships, and position yourself to earn a return offer.

6. Career Direction

Not sure whether investment banking is right for you? We can explore your interests, strengths, and long-term goals to help you make an informed decision.

What to expect:

There isn't a fixed curriculum. Each session focuses on what you need most, whether that's improving your resume, developing a networking plan, or practicing for an upcoming interview.

We'll work through it together, and you'll leave with clear feedback and specific next steps.

Not sure where to start?

Send me a message with a little about your background and where you are in the recruiting process. I'll let you know how I think I can help.

Your first 30-minute session is free, so we can talk through your goals and decide whether working together makes sense.
