About Patrick
I love to play piano and I love to teach. I have been playing piano for most of my life, and never stopped playing or improving. I have taught singing, guitar, and piano lessons to kids for years. I love spreading a love of playing music to people, no matter whether they stick to it or not. I have studied Jazz Theory and Performance at a 5-week pre-professional program at Berklee College of music and currently play in the Davidson College Big Band and Jazz Combos programs, as well as sing in the College Chorale and gig extensively. I love music as much as anyone and have been told I am a great teacher many times by my students and their parents. I also speak Spanish, so I am open to teaching en español.

Music should be fun! I think that making a student comfortable and open to growing a musician is essential to any lesson. I am very focused on technique and music theory, as I believe the best way to understand music is to both hear it and read it. A child (or adult) learning piano should focus on learning the notes, finger and hand positioning, and music staffs, before learning their scales and learning how to play songs. I also believe an essential part of music is being creative, so I love to allow my students to improvise on scales and over basic chord changes.
