About Caroline
For twenty years I have been encouraging students to enjoy their Maths GCSE lessons. Its fun! Okay some times it can be a struggle to convince a struggling student that quadratic simultaneous equations or trigonometric graphs are interesting, but most of the time they do get there, some even carry on and do the A'level with me!
I loved maths at school, and achieved an A in the A'level but followed English Literature to PhD, so have a love for the arts which complements my appreciation of mathematics. I see it as a creative subject, full of wonder and aim to communicate this to my students. I am still amazed by the grace of some of the proofs and am sure that my own enthusiasm is infectious. My students get the bug! Well that's my objective anyway.

One to one tuition puts students in the right place to grapple with the complexities of mathematics. It helps to nurture an interest in the subject which the classroom cannot possibly emulate. Studying Mathematics requires learning a new language, and is daunting at first, because not only is it a new language but it also has a different alphabet. I find that much teaching at schools is formulaic and fails to communicate even very basic concepts to students. In my lessons I encourage a true understanding of the basics and from there we can flourish and move to harder concepts.
I pride myself on having helped my students achieve success in their exams. Many find the lessons help them improve significantly. But I do take most satisfaction in giving my students a glimpse of the wonders of the subject.
