About Rafe
I’m a guitar tutor with over 7 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Guitar Performance. My lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and skill level, with a special focus on slide guitar techniques, open tunings, and fingerpicking blues styles. Whether you're picking up the guitar for the first time or looking to refine your skills, I’m here to guide you with patience and encouragement. My teaching style is supportive, motivating, and rooted in the authentic traditions of the blues. I’ve helped students explore the deep soul of Delta blues, the electrifying sounds of Chicago blues, and the intricate patterns of Piedmont fingerpicking. Each lesson is designed to build your technique while developing your unique musical voice. We’ll work on tone, phrasing, rhythm, and expression, always with a focus on musical storytelling. I love helping students connect emotionally with the music they play. Along the way, I offer practical tips, creative exercises, and listening recommendations to keep you inspired. No matter your background, I believe anyone can tap into the rich feeling of the blues.

My guitar teaching approach is rooted in helping students find their own voice through lead playing. I focus on developing strong improvisation skills, phrasing techniques, and melodic soloing across blues and rock genres. Whether you're learning how to bend with feeling or shape your vibrato with intention, I guide each step with patience and clarity. My lessons include practical exercises, jam-along tracks, and tone exploration to build muscle memory and ear training. I put a lot of care into helping students understand how solos are built note by note, phrase by phrase. We explore how scales and modes connect emotionally to the music you want to play. I work especially well with those craving expressive freedom on the fretboard, whether you're just beginning your lead journey or refining advanced techniques. I support students who want to sound authentic and bold, not just fast. From slow, soulful licks to fiery riffs, we’ll build your confidence to play what you feel. I’m especially committed to helping players discover what makes their solos personal and memorable. Together, we’ll unlock the creative side of technique. You'll leave each session with tools to solo freely and a clearer sense of your musical identity.
