About Orietha
. I was born and raised in Colombia then I studied to become a teacher in USA. I have over 18 years of teaching experience where I have worked with all different age groups and levels from beginner and advanced levels. I have taught one to one as well as groups, especially university students around the world.
My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students toward a level of independence where they develop a desire to learn and think for themselves. To reach this end, I rely upon many activities that involve a total physical response (TPR) by the students, online teaching required a lot of TPR. Instead of just reading about salsa and listening to the music, my students dance the steps and sing the songs, engaging in the action as they learn both Spanish language skills and elements of Hispanic/Latino culture. Through this type of active participation, students learn and form their own opinions and base of knowledge. I define my approach to teaching foreign language as rationalistic since I encourage critical thinking.

I have a passion for teaching. I am highly energetic, creative, resourceful, dynamic and an engaging teacher and I would love to continue sharing my teaching experience with students who can value my skills. I love when students overcome their struggles to learn something new. It brings me joy to be a part of it. I think learning should be fun and should give energy not take it. Every student is unique, and I adapt to the student’s learning style.
I use in my classes a mix of teaching styles, and I know when and how to choose the most appropriate one for specific situation. Using the correct teaching styles helps my students to grow, learn and become more independent. For example when I delegate some task, empower my students. When my students discuss any topic, they listen and ask questions. And, when the teaching style is direct, they know what they need to do.
