About Ricky
I’ve been a musician for over 15 years, performing on a variety of woodwind instruments including saxophone, flute, and clarinet, and I’m also an intermediate pianist who uses a strong music theory foundation to read music and compose.
Music has opened countless doors for me—from earning scholarships to prestigious high school and college programs, where I received my Bachelor of Music degree, to performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and traveling to China for a music program. Since music has given me so much, my goal is to give back by helping aspiring musicians understand and apply music theory in a way that supports their own musical journey.

I specialize in helping beginner and intermediate musicians actually understand music theory—and use it right away. Instead of memorizing abstract rules, I break things down into clear, digestible concepts like notes, intervals, triads, and chord progressions, then bring them to life with real examples from classical and contemporary music.
My lessons are hands-on, practical, and fun. You’ll learn how theory shows up in songs you already know, why certain chords sound the way they do, and how to apply what you learn to playing, writing, or improvising music. Whether you’re brand new to theory or feel like it’s never quite clicked, I’ll help you build a solid foundation that actually makes music more enjoyable and intuitive.
