It’s not uncommon to see students who were straight A students in high school face challenges in collegiate STEM due to the way it’s taught, and I enjoy breaking down the concepts in easier to understand ways and guiding them through how to study in these courses.
Something I've learned in my experience tutoring is that many students develop a false limiting belief that they "aren't good at" math or science because somewhere along the way, they have not grasped an important 'stepping stone' topic before moving on, had a teacher that didn't match their learning style, developed test anxiety, or something else of that nature. My favorite thing about tutoring is seeing both kids and adults who thought they'd "never get it", grow a new confidence in themselves and earning A's in these classes.
