About Lydia
I have my Bachelor's in Fine Arts and am a working artist, maintaining a multidisciplinary studio practice based in Montgomery County, Maryland. I have been working in arts education for 3 years now, but have been heavily involved in arts spaces for 10 years, working in art galleries, exhibition spaces, and arts summer camps. My approach as an instructor comes from my great passion for arts accessibility and inspiring a love of creating with one's hands in today's highly mechanized world. I am constantly creating work myself, whether it be painting, sculpting or mixed media sewing work, and my own knowledge of materials and techniques help me to teach more holistically. I have valuable experience showing and selling my own artwork, and would love to provide students with additional support for their own artistic goals.

I strive to meet my students where they are and tailor my art lessons to their interests, while working to build important foundational skills and an understanding of various art techniques. I strongly believe art and creativity are for everyone, no matter one's age or experience. I have 3 years of experience teaching students ages 6 to adults at all levels and mediums including drawing, painting with watercolors, acrylic and oils, and sculpting.
My lessons in drawing are comprehensive and build upon basic drawing skills, using graphite, soft pastels and charcoal. I especially love teaching still life drawing. I am a watercolorist and can lead students through learning a variety of watercolor techniques by practice and repetition to build confidence in the medium. My lessons in oil painting incorporate color theory, color mixing, and a variety of other necessary skills that guide my students through the oil painting process.
