About Melissa

I currently work as a nurse alongside teaching privately, and across fourteen years of combining both roles I have guided approximately three hundred ninety students, most of them healthcare professionals themselves. My clinical background gives me unusually direct insight into exactly what actually trips up international healthcare workers in real patient and colleague interactions. I work almost exclusively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare staff preparing for licensing exams, workplace communication, or relocation to English-speaking healthcare systems. My teaching style is practical and scenario-based, built on real, lived clinical experience rather than generic assumptions about what healthcare English supposedly involves. I have guided numerous healthcare professionals through successful licensing exams and workplace transitions, drawing on genuine clinical insight rather than purely academic language training alone. Colleagues and former students regularly tell me a specific scenario or phrase we practiced together came in genuinely useful during an actual difficult shift. My approach treats English as a genuine clinical tool, not an abstract subject, and I think that distinction matters enormously for busy healthcare professionals. I take real pride in helping nervous international healthcare workers communicate confidently and safely with patients and colleagues alike. After fourteen years combining nursing and teaching, I remain genuinely committed to this practical, healthcare-focused approach.

English

I work as a nurse alongside teaching, so my lessons are shaped heavily around the real, high-stakes communication healthcare workers actually need on the floor every single day. We focus on precise, clear language for patient interactions, handovers, and documentation, since a misunderstood instruction in healthcare carries real consequences, not just embarrassment. Vocabulary training centers on medical terminology alongside everyday hospital English, covering both formal clinical language and the informal chat that happens constantly during a shift. I run realistic roleplay constantly, practicing patient conversations, colleague handovers, and difficult conversations with families, since these exact scenarios come up regularly in real healthcare work. Listening practice uses genuine accents and real-paced speech, since patients and colleagues rarely speak slowly or clearly for a learner's convenience during an actual shift. I teach students how to ask for clarification confidently without seeming incompetent, a skill I watched save colleagues from serious misunderstandings more than once myself. Written communication receives real attention too, since accurate documentation matters enormously and carries genuine professional and legal weight in healthcare settings. Cultural context around bedside manner and appropriate tone gets real attention, since healthcare communication style varies significantly across different practice environments. Confidence-building matters enormously here, since hesitation under pressure causes more real problems than actual vocabulary gaps ever do. Every lesson stays genuinely practical and healthcare-focused.
