About DongYoung

I started cubing in 2021 and after solving my first cube I was instantly intrigued by the way it worked. I was always turning my cube and timing my solves, without the direct intention to get faster but due to my curiosity for the puzzle. Since then, I have learned and figured out hundreds of CFOP solutions and techniques which I hope to share to people who love cubing and problem-solving as much as I do.

About the lesson

My tutoring style is deeply personalized and patient. I currently offer coaching exclusively for 2x2, 3x3, 3x3 one-handed, and 4x4 events. I start by trying to understand each student's thought process through watching their solves and solutions, and tailor practices by providing efficient solutions that will best flow in their solving style and make them faster. The primary focus is going to be on building strong problem-solving strategies, good finger-tricks and habits, while helping you maintain strong passion for puzzles.

A typical lesson will be consisted of a quick chat to see the student's level, followed by a video of a clear set of explanations of new techniques that the student could directly benefit from. The techniques will be very in-depth and a little conceptual, and I will try my best to optimize your finger-tricks, efficiency, and maybe even teach ways to control nerves for official competitions!

What sets me apart is my level of 3x3 as a 6.5 second solver(PB: 3.3 seconds), and my quick improvement. During my first year of cubing, I attended my first competition and got the fourth "fastest official first average" at the time: 8.53 seconds. Therefore, I have many ways for improving various types of flaws, which I am willing to teach to all cubers who genuinely enjoy this hobby!

Perfect! DongYoung is a very patient and wonderful teacher. My son was able to completely solve a Rubik’s Cube after only two lessons, which was amazing to see! DongYoung explains each step clearly and patiently, and he knows how to keep a child’s attention and make the lessons fun and engaging.

My son is in 4th grade, and it can sometimes be difficult to keep him focused, but he really enjoys his lessons with DongYoung. He always looks forward to each lesson and is excited to learn something new. I also appreciate how DongYoung encourages him instead of making him feel frustrated when something is difficult.

I can see that my son is not only learning how to solve the Rubik’s Cube, but also developing patience, concentration, problem-solving skills, and confidence.
