About Bastian
How do I start! I love songwriting, storytelling and sound. It's my life's passion to see great songs brought to life. As an independent artist, I know the struggles and joys of carrying many musical plates at once, and I know as a neurodiverse musician how overwhelming that can be, and how joyful it can be to have a teammate in the process. I've been fortunate enough to work with some incredible mentors & collaborators, that have worked with the likes of Jeff Buckley, the Temper Trap, Kimbra and St Vincent amongst others. I know what it's like to feel held in the process, where the artist feels heard in the session and through their music, rather than dominated. I'm obsessed with finding the perfect lyric, the catchiest hook, and finding sonic ear candy, that says so much without taking up too much space.
In terms of my own nerdiness I spent my COVID lockdown writing 10-15 choruses a day (with the crazy goal of someday collaborating with Damon Albarn of Gorillaz/Blur), to write songs for an album, I ended up working on this for 3 months and writing 750 chorus melodies. I've completed Pat Pattison's online Berklee course on Lyric Writing and found it to be super insightful to help me tell stories via lyrics in an equally catchy and direct way. I also started working with musicians to not only develop their songwriting and music production, but also their entire branding as artists, and would help them translate their stories into branding, photography and campaigns to help them birth their music out into the world.

i take these lessons as seriously as i take my own music.
we will have fun, so sessions are relaxed and supportive but still structured, you’ll always leave with real progress.
as everyone has their own learning style i'm always willing to accomodate people with neurodiversity and/or special needs.
lessons run about 90 minutes. Enough time to talk, experiment, and actually feel the music instead of just analysing it.
we start wherever you’re at; a lyric, melody, voice note, life moment, or no idea at all, and build step by step:
idea → melody → lyrics → demo → production → recording → mixing (and optional artist identity)
suitable for beginner to intermediate songwriters and producers.
i work with mostly vocal based music, but instrumental welcome too.

some quotes!
"He's back with another warped pop wonder!" "I'm getting a super cool Beck x Jagwar Ma vibe with this one. Straight fire, son. And he can back it up live!" - bridget hustwaite (triple j)
"blyolk is back with his best track yet! And the best part, the more I listen to it, the more I can't get enough. It's unusual, it's captivating and it's creative. There's something about this that really stands out when you hear it. You're on to something!" "Everyone keeps talking about how bloody great this track is. I definitely hear an essence of Beck, modern twists combined with this sort of ambiguous darkness. It's a unique style and I'm a huge fan!" - claire mooney (triple j)
"get outta here, you're too good and im getting mad about it" - max quinn (triple j)
"ooooh give this a few listens people. this is a multi-coloured puffer fish that blows up in parts and deflates in others. i'm transfixed!" - declan byrne (triple j)
"It's art-pop meets the grunge world, and I'm very into it." - celline narinli (triple j)
"Can't believe this one slipped through the cracks, I've been meaning to leave a review since the first time I heard it. The way blyolk moves into the pre-chorus and them slams you with that whopping great chorus is something else. A huge step up!" - tommy faith (triple j)
