About Elizabeth
I graduated from the University of Alabama with an English Major and Creative Writing minor. I've worked with students and writers for over 5 years in poetry classes, literary analysis, argumentative essays, personal essays, and creative writing projects.
I've taught in both a classroom setting and personal tutorials.
I also have experience as a newspaper editor, so journalistic writing is another specialty of mine.

My approach to teaching is to meet students where they are. We will talk openly about your goals and develop a strategy to achieve them. I call my approach the "funnel method," similar to common essay writing techniques: I like to start broad with a general introduction, then narrow the work down to a more specific, detailed focus. This enables me to support you with the best, most relevant information I have.
I believe the key to finding success and joy in your work is honing your unique voice and letting your curiosity guide you. Even if you don't consider yourself "good" at writing, there's always some trick to making great work happen. I'm here to help you find it.
After each lesson, I provide:
-A brief review of the lesson
-Helpful tips, reminders, and notes on your progress
-Goals for the following session
If we have an upcoming session scheduled, you are welcome to send me questions or concerns in advance via email or SuperProf messages. I am always open to adjustments based on your areas of greatest need or greatest interest.

Working with Elizabeth was an incredibly beneficial experience. She gave constructive feedback in a timely manner that helped me further develop my paper's analysis. Elizabeth's keen eye for editing guided me in refining my paper at a sentence level, as well. Her personable demeanor made her very easy to work with and made me feel comfortable asking questions.
Elizabeth was a fantastic help on a short story of mine. She quickly and efficiently spotted mistakes I made, then pointed them out to me. From missed commas to missed opportunities for thematic consistency, she honed in on specifics to improve my writing, and she was always supportive of both me and the work. Because of her, the short story was recently shortlisted for a magazine. I cannot thank her enough.
Elizabeth is an amazing English teacher. She understood the tone of my work and provided thoughtful critique while fostering open collaborative dialogue. She was always willing to further explain her notes and help me dig deeper as a writer. She is a sharp editor and acts as the perfect first read to any project.
I approached Elizabeth for input on some poetry I was looking to publish. After knowing Elizabeth for several years by now, and her reputation for phenomenal writing advice preceding her, I had no doubt in my mind she was the perfect woman for the job. In no time at all, she responded with some of the most effective, constructivel feedback I had ever received in years of studying how to write. No professor or instructor I’ve ever encountered has ever given me the same “Ah-ha!” moment that Elizabeth did. After adding her suggestions in, I saw my work really come to life and take a breath of fresh air, and I’m astounded at just how much better she made it. When she gave me her advice, I just remember hyperventilating and yelling “Oh my God! Oh my God! That’s so perfect!” Elizabeth, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for all your help.
