About Daniel

I’m an award-winning independent filmmaker who has been working for over 25 years on the biggest passion of my life! My greatest achievement is the 4 feature films I have directed, one of which The Man Inside was distributed theatrically and was critically acclaimed. You can also view my work on Disney Plus, Amazon, Netflix, Sky and Apple TV. I’ve trained and gained experience on film sets across the world and continue to make films to this day. As a short film filmmaker I enjoy the entire filmmaking process from scripting, directing, cinematography and editing. You can check out the work I have produced on IMDB (concealed information) As well as being a filmmaker, I have also been a film mentor and educator, working with some of the most prestigious film schools in London and Paris.
As a private tutor I have also used my extensive experience in Higher Education to guide and mentor students who are writing dissertations or applying to film schools and universities.

I am here for you to teach and advocate for you, in all things filmmaking. My experience in filmmaking and also mentoring and teaching, means I am passionate about nurturing new talent and helping new filmmakers to express themselves from idea to getting their work on screen. I want to help you find your unique creative voice by developing your projects and your storytelling skills. The lessons are tailored specifically to you, because it’s your personality, your experiences, your influences that will shape your films into being the individual creative pieces of work that will stand out from the rest. As a filmmaking tutor I will work with you to develop your ideas through to professional compelling scripts and onto film production and beyond.
As an educator, I have extensive knowledge of High Education, where I can work with you to achieve better results for your dissertations, or assist you in applying to film schools and universities.

  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I actually started filmmaking back in 1991. I begun making short films on a 16mm camera! It all came from my love of cinema. I was hooked from an early age and dreams of making my own films one day. Little did I know as an 8 year old boy it would come true!
  • 2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

Primarily David Lynch was the biggest artistic influence. Watching his early work made me realise anything was possible and I could just be myself. That was an important lesson to learn. To not imitate but to follow my heart.
  • 3) What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

talent can only get you so far. In a modern world you need a lot of drive and tenacity. Just the sheer will to make something happen. You have to remember that there are thousands of people out there who want to make films too so you have to hang in there, keep making films, keep generating projects and keep going! Persistence is everything.
  • 4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

for most people you need another income if you’re an independent filmmaker. Somehow you need the mental and physical energy and space to create. So choose the work you do carefully and if possible select a job that’s adjacent to the film industry. You never know where it may lead.
  • 5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

when you get a project you really care about you really feel like you’d do anything to get it made. That passion is relentless and unstoppable. On all honesty, if you don’t feel that then your project will never get made.
  • 6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

As an 8 year old boy sitting on the cinema I never dreamed one day I’d be standing Leicester Square at the premiere of a film I wrote and directed. That was the absolute highlight for me. That and seeing reviews in magazines and newspapers I read.
  • 7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Strangely enough, I am going through this as I answer this question. I have a student with the most extraordinary imagination and also life experience. It’s combining to produce e a really special project and I’m proud to be helping her realise her dream.
  • 8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

Listen. That’s it! Listen to who the student is. What their project is. What they need and want. Then help get them there. It’s not about me. It’s all about them. It all starts with listening.
