About EARL
I have taught writing, literature, and philosophy for over 20 years at the college level, and I have helped thousands of students, primarily freshmen and sophomores, but others as well. For a number of years I was the advisor to the student newspaper and literary magazine.

I have taught college freshmen and sophomores writing, literature, human relations, and philosophy, and did so for over twenty years. My specialty in graduate school was the teaching of writing, but I am particularly skilled at teaching basics such as grammatical concepts, mechanics such as punctuation, and proofreading techniques. I am well versed in poetic scansion and analysis, and can assist in the reading and understanding of classical as well as other literary works. I will not engage in proofreadng, correcting, or revising a student's work, although I will eagerly direct him/her in how to go about doing so. Some students who come for "help" with a writing assignment, for example, actually want me to write something for them, but I do not see that as my role. If I were to engage in that way, the student would learn nothing but how good I am at the task. I am widely familiar with reference works and can direct someone to them as well as explain how to use them, and I am quite good at explaining the logic of essay structure and thesis development. I believe I can help you, but you need to be genuinely interesting in wanting to participate.
