About Ali
Kia ora! My name is Ali and I'm a Year 10 student at Rolleston College in Rolleston, Canterbury.
Math is one of my strongest subjects — I'm currently taking on NCEA Level 1 Math content as an extra challenge outside of my normal year group, which means I cover everything from basic number work right through to algebra and geometry.
I'm not just good at Math though — I genuinely enjoy helping others understand it. I already mentor Year 8 students at other schools through a school program, so I'm used to working with younger learners and finding ways to explain things in a way that actually makes sense.
Outside of school I'm a basketball player, a Whanau Ambassador at my college, and I've been involved in community events as an emcee and organizer. I'm also participating in a national youth leadership program in Wellington this year.
I say all this not to show off, but because I think it shows I'm reliable, responsible, and good with people — which matters when you're trusting someone to work with your child.
I'm patient, easy to talk to, and I'll always show up on time and prepared. I have my own transport so I can come to you locally within Rolleston.

My lessons are relaxed, friendly, and focused on what the student actually needs. I don't believe in just repeating the same explanation louder — if something isn't making sense, we'll try a different approach until it clicks.
A typical session starts with a quick check of what the student is working on at school or where they're feeling stuck. We then work through the topic together step by step, with plenty of practice questions so they can build confidence before trying things on their own.
I'm patient and I never make students feel bad for not understanding something — questions are always welcome. I remember what it felt like to not "get" something, and I know how much of a difference it makes when someone explains it in the right way.
Sessions are one hour, held at your home in Rolleston. I bring any notes or practice material needed. Parents are welcome to sit in at any time.
What I can help with:
Counting and number basics, multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, percentages, geometry, algebra introduction, word problems, and general Maths homework and test preparation — Year 1 through Year 9.
