About Joe

I am a 17 year-old student currently studying A-level Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths. I’ve always felt intense curiosity/enjoyment when it comes to understanding how/why things work, particularly when it comes to science and maths. I also really enjoy sharing this understanding with others.

My interest in teaching has also been experienced by my mum, who is a full-time GCSE science teacher at a nearby secondary school. Being constantly exposed to teaching from such a young age has given me a real appreciation for how much difference a good explanation and a supportive teacher can make. I have also voluntarily tutored younger students in the past, which I found genuinely rewarding.

I want to tutor because I enjoy helping people overcome the point where a subject suddenly feels difficult. It’s such a great feeling for me to be able to see a struggling student turn from “I don’t understand this” or “I just don’t get it”, to being able to comfortably solve a problem independently.

In all, I hope to make my lessons both productive and encouraging, while using my age to my advantage due to the things it causes me to share in common with the students, leading to a much more relaxed environment for everyone involved. I believe this is the key for me to be able to unlock a student’s real potential.

About the lesson

My lessons are focused on making difficult GCSE topics easier to understand for potentially struggling students, and to help them become more confident in their own ability.

As a 17 year-old who has recently completed my GCSEs, I know the current courses, exam style and the areas students may frequently struggle with. I recently achieved five grade 9s, four grade 8s, a grade 7 and an additional GCSE in further maths. Alongside this I have qualified for and previously competed in the UK national junior Maths Olympiad, by UKMT.

I adapt lessons to fit around the student I am tutoring, meaning I’m willing to completely explain a topic from scratch, work through difficult questions together, improve exam technique, or prepare for an upcoming test. My main goal is to make lessons relaxed and approachable, while still ensuring they remain focused and productive.

I offer GCSE Maths and Science tutoring, and I am happy to work with students of varying abilities, whether that be helping build foundational knowledge or for those aiming for the highest grades. In the past, I have voluntarily tutored younger students in school, giving me experience explaining topics in a clear and accessible way. Alongside tutoring, I am currently studying A-level Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths, allowing me to also keep expanding my knowledge of the subjects I teach.
