About Tim

I have worked in the programming space for over 25 years. What does that mean exactly? Well I have been there at the turn of the millennium when browsers were in chaos about standards, I was coding in PHP back when it was a wreck (trust me it isn't anymore) and I have seen fad languages/frameworks come and go. All this helps you in that I can show you what to pay attention to, what is good to know and what can be a waste of your time and effort based on YOUR interests.

I have made a living on it for over two decades so I know what it takes to keep up with the industry. I can show you how to learn, research, grow and lead in development... if you so choose.

But at the end of the day it is all about exploration, problem solving and fun. If it isn't fun, you are not going to enjoy the process and the money you might earn will just not be worth it.

My teaching style is all about setting a nice learning outline and then exploring the topics as we go, trying things out, taking as much time as needed and learn at a pace that is all about the student. All along the way showing resources, tools and cutting through the hype. Oh and we will certainly crack jokes and develop interesting things. :)

About the lesson

I have been a mentor online for years and often answer programming and design related questions through web forums. I have mentored professionals from different languages and even work at home moms trying to break into the software industry.

I teach with a free and open relationship of asking questions, exploring and trying things. To me there are no stupid questions.

The secret to programming is that you can't memorize everything so don't try. Instead learn how to learn. I often teach students how to be resourceful and find answers no matter what language they are working with. I can share my best website resources and to know when content is good or not (including ChatGPT).

Each session we will talk about a few topics that progress in a logical order. We go at whatever pace is comfortable and if you want to know more about something, I am willing to explain what I know. I often use simple analogies and code up examples where appropriate. In the end if it isn't fun, then why are we programming?

Details

I charge a flat fee per hour through stripe. You can pay by the hour as you go but I do recommend buying the 5hr package once you feel that we are a great fit only to simplify things for the both of us.
