About Yen Theng
I am an undergraduate who is passionate in community service to give back to the society. Since February 2023, I go to Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for weekly volunteering sessions where we conduct activities to empower the mental well-being of IMH inpatients. Hence, I would like to contribute my knowledge to the future generation of youths through tutoring too!

• Trilingual = English, Chinese and Malay • Tutoring experience: 3 years of tutoring experience (2 years for primary school students: all subjects, specifically in English.) 83% of the students who I taught saw massive improvement in their grades. I have mentored a total of 30 students in my 2 years of teaching experience. I conducted group tuitions. My students are from Saint Andrew’s Junior School. Number of students taught and the subjects taught: E - English M - Math S - Science C - Chinese 2020 - 12 P4 EMSC, 13 P5 EMSC, 5 P6 EMSC 2021 - 13 P4 EMSC, 16 P5 EMSC, 7 P6 EMSC Notable grade improvements of my students: English: 50 marks to 82 marks Math: 40 marks to 85 marks Science: 45 marks to 83 marks Chinese: 38 marks to 80 marks 2025 - 1:1 home tutoring for the following groups of students: 1. Primary 5 Chinese 2. Secondary 4 Chemistry and Biology (providing notes too) 3. JC2 H2 Biology • Tutoring methods: For English and Chinese, I use simplified notes to explain important concepts such as tenses and subject-verb agreement. Worksheets are used to test their knowledge after that. I will also teach them new vocabularies weekly and test them right after and regularly for the next few weeks to ensure retention. For E. Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, I will use practice questions and past year questions from Ten Years Series to go through with students how a certain formula is applied. I will make sure each formula in the exam syllabus is covered by at least 1 practice question. I will explain to them step by step and teach them the correct way to present their workings for full marks. I will show them videos and explain to them along the way if the students prefer visual learning. For Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, I will teach my students the concepts using illustrations so that they can visualize them better, using videos for more complex concepts. Then, I will go through practice questions and past year questions from the Ten Years Series to teach them how to comprehend long questions, highlight the important key words/hints from the questions and ways to tackle every single sub-question. For Physics, my way of teaching Mathematics will apply too.
