About Heather
I have taught full time in classrooms, grades 3-6 for 26 years. I tutor past students after these leave my class in their upper grades and in preparation for middle school. I love learning and showing students success by them discovering the keys and answers. We play games, read together and write funny comics and stories. We explore places around the world, use math in ways that don’t make it seem like math and are always shocked when our time has run out so quickly!!!

Reading aloud and together with the learner improves their fluency and confidence. We’ll read novels and short stories together and some reading will be done independently. Vocabulary acquisition is done through our reading of novels, articles and content materials. Spelling and phonics will be taught in a fun, sound building format where students see sounds come together. We’ll also share word etymology and Greek/Latin roots for deeper word understanding. Writing comes naturally from our planning and discussions. Mathematics is my favorite to teach, and we learn and build bases with games and fundamental programs which keeps the student engaged.
