About Muhammad
My name is Muhammad, I am a Year 12 and I was born and raised here in New Zealand. Growing up, I had always been competing with myself to achieve the highest grades possible in all of my subjects. However, I noticed that a lot of students just did not understand what the teacher was teaching and consequently didn't end up doing well in school. They would often ask me how I had understood and asked for help.
Because of this, I made a goal to learn different ways to try make other students understand different concepts in school. I don't believe that some students are naturally smarter than others. I believe that some students understand things in the same way teachers explain and that's why they do well in school. However, if the rest of the students simply could understand how to do something having it explained in a different way, they could do just as well or even better as the top achieving students.

Since Year 2 in Primary School, I remember being at the top of the class and having other students come to ask me for help to understand the work.
During my 10 years helping other students, I have come to favour the technique of asking different types of questions, instead of telling them answers, to allow them to think in a way that allows them to solve a problem themselves. If they are unable to do so, I give them part of the answer and follow up with a "which means...?" question to really get them to develop that logical thinking system. I have found this to be the most effective way to teach an idea in multiple different subjects.
Depending on the student (concentration ability, drive to learn etc.), I would say anything more than 45mins - 1hr of learning is too much information to process all at once. I believe that the student should be able to full understand a concept to be able to use it effectively, and I believe this can't be done if too much information is being processed at once. That's why my average length of a lesson would be between that timeframe with a short 5 minute break in between if necessary.
I am 17 years old and I wouldn't mind tutoring anybody as long as the subject they want to learn is within my capability. This can be a student who stayed behind a year, all the way down to primary school students.
