About Tessa
I am a guitar tutor with eleven years of teaching experience and an Associate Degree in Guitar Performance. Alongside teaching, I actively perform in jazz clubs, rock venues, and music festivals, which keeps my playing fresh and authentic. My lessons bring this real-world energy directly to students, combining technique with the practical skills needed to thrive as a guitarist. Improvisation is at the heart of my teaching. I help students unlock creativity, break free from rigid patterns, and develop their own musical voice. Stage presence is another focus, as I believe performing with confidence is just as important as mastering notes and chords. I mentor not only beginners and hobbyists but also aspiring performers and gigging musicians who want to take their playing to the next level. My guidance is rooted in my own experience of stepping on stage, facing audiences, and shaping my musical identity over time. Every lesson is tailored, engaging, and connected to the reality of being a performing musician. My teaching approach is centered on making every student feel confident, inspired, and fully prepared to enjoy the journey of playing guitar. I guide learners step by step, from building strong basics to exploring advanced techniques. A key part of my method is focusing on body posture, as a relaxed and correct position makes playing easier and prevents strain.
I also emphasize mental preparation, helping students manage nerves before performances, auditions, or recitals. This builds not only skill but also stage readiness. Finger independence is another cornerstone of my lessons, where I use practical exercises to strengthen coordination and precision. With time, students gain the ability to express themselves freely on the guitar.
I welcome students who are passionate about different styles—whether they are drawn to expressive fingerstyle playing or carry the restless energy of youthful creativity. Each student is unique, and I adapt my lessons to bring out their best. My goal is not just to teach techniques but also to develop discipline, creativity, and a genuine love for music.
