About Jim
I have just recently graduated from San Jose State University studying Applied and Computational Mathematics. I have been tutoring for about 2.5 years with many different companies. I have worked for Mathnasium, the UCSD Education Corps, and I've been a freelance tutor as well. I mainly work with junior high and high school students, but I am available for grade school and college students, too.
I typically only tutor subjects that I have received an A or better in. This includes (but is not limited to):
Geometry, Algebra 1 and 2, Precalculus, AP Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Physics, Introductory Chemistry, and C++/Java programming.
I have experience tutoring almost all of these subjects before, except for some of the upper division math courses.

I excel at breaking down difficult concepts into intuitive components. Developing intuition is the key to succeeding in mathematics. Almost every concept in high school math is easy to understand when explained properly. When a student understands why a mathematical rule exists, they will almost never break that rule again. I seek to promote an understanding of the logic of mathematics and an appreciation for it's beauty and power.
