About Raana
I find teaching and tutoring pleasurable that's why I am always personable, knowledgeable and fun to talk to when I teach or tutor.
I teach writing because I know that as a published writer in two languages I have something to share with future writers. I am native-like user of English so I can teach some practical strategies to ESL learners to improve their English communication skills. If
you'd like to work with a highly killed, passionate tutor, Please let me know. If you live in or around Rochester, NY I can meet you in-person, and if Rochester isn't your home, I will meet you online.

I am a seasoned classroom teacher, but when I work with my students, I start with an analysis of their individual learning needs and learning styles. Then, I help my students to set their own learning targets and facilitate them in planning how they can best achieve those targets. I choose materials and activities based an analysis of my students' strengths and preferences so I can support them to become independent, life-long learners.
Whether I teach a college writing, ESL, literature or philosophy class, I begin my lesson by connecting everyday things to the content. So, my lesson plan begins with a warm-up activity, in which I use pictures, jokes, comic strips and short videos on the day's topic/ theme to stimulate thinking and discussion. I choose these warm up materials based on my students' age and educational level. Then I use a full-length text (for general reading comprehension or literature or general science) to develop understanding of the theme/topic of the day. This is followed by an oral discussion or Q/A to check the understanding of content or work on the target skill. During the process my students have the freedom to ask questions, and can ask me to go back and explain things that they didn't understand.
I believe that most students like to connect with their teacher and build a relationship where they do not hesitate to seek help. So I build our relationship by sharing my experiences as a learner. I open up about my my own struggle as a student and invite them to think with me to find solutions to a problem. My diverse cultural, linguistic and educational background make it easy to build relationships with my students.
