About Sammy

I am an Information Technology educator, IT professional, and English teacherwith 17 years of teaching experience at a state university in Eastern Visayas. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught programming, database management, systems analysis and design, software development, information security, data privacy, and other IT-related subjects. I also teach English and hold a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate.

My teaching experience is complemented by hands-on professional experience in database administration, software development, quality assurance, system administration, and IT support. This combination of teaching and industry experience allows me to connect classroom concepts with practical examples and real-world situations.

As an English teacher, I also focus on helping learners improve their communication skills, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading, listening, and conversational confidence, depending on their individual needs and goals.

I believe that learning—whether IT or English—should be practical, understandable, patient, and encouraging. I take time to explain concepts clearly and adjust my teaching approach according to each student's knowledge, learning pace, and specific needs.

About the lesson

As an Information Technology educator and English teacher with 17 years of teaching experience at a state university in Eastern Visayas, I believe that effective teaching goes beyond simply explaining concepts. My goal is to help students understand how and why things work, while giving them opportunities to practice, apply what they learn, and develop confidence along the way.

I also teach English and hold a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate, which has strengthened my approach to lesson planning, communication, student engagement, and adapting lessons to different learning needs.

My Teaching Methods and Techniques

I use a practical, step-by-step, and student-centered approach. I explain concepts clearly and in simple terms, demonstrate how they work, and then give students opportunities to practice and apply their knowledge.

Depending on the subject and the student's goals, I use:

A typical lesson begins with a brief discussion of the topic and its practical importance. I introduce the key concepts, explain them using simple examples, and demonstrate how they can be applied.

For IT lessons, this may include coding exercises, SQL queries, database activities, troubleshooting, or working through a practical problem. Rather than simply memorizing syntax or procedures, I encourage students to understand the reasoning behind what they are doing.

For English lessons, I focus on practical communication. Depending on the student's needs, lessons may include vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, reading, listening, conversation, or workplace English. I encourage students to actively use English during the lesson and learn through practice and conversation.

After the activities, we review the student's work, identify areas for improvement, and discuss how the knowledge or skills can be applied in real-life situations.

What Sets Me Apart

What I bring to tutoring is a combination of long-term teaching experience, professional IT experience, and TEFL training.

I have worked in areas such as database administration, software development, quality assurance, system administration, information security, data privacy, and application support. This professional experience allows me to connect IT concepts with practical situations that students may encounter in their studies, projects, and future careers.

At the same time, my experience as a TEFL-certified English teacher allows me to approach English instruction with patience and flexibility. I understand that learning a new language can sometimes feel challenging, so I aim to create a supportive environment where students can practice without being afraid of making mistakes.

After many years of teaching, I have learned that every student is different. Some students learn quickly through explanations, while others understand better through examples, demonstrations, practice, or conversation. I therefore try to adjust my lessons to the individual student rather than using exactly the same approach for everyone.
