Perfect! Mr Yiani is the best of the best tutors I know, I've had a lot of tutors in my life before but Mr Yiani understands me really well in class. He is very versatile with time and very supportive. The lessons are very serious but at the same time, it is chill and comfortable. he always has something in his sleeve to help you generally. He explains things really well and doesn't go to the next bit until you understood the previous things. He makes the lessons very fun and he helped me find my strengths and weaknesses. He always knows what I need to do to improve and I found that every time I am confused I go to him for help and he usually knows everything I need to know. He helped boost my confidence in architecture and that had a domino effect on my life and that had a very much positive impact on me and how I viewed things. I definitely recommend him!

Yianni is a very intelligent person with a lot of ideas and very good knowledge on his subject. He is extremely helpful and he always has a comprehensive way to teach. He can give the appropriate advice and guide according to the requirements of your essays. My thesis got a very good feedback thanks to Yianni, therefore I highly recommend him.
I have known Yianni since he started to work as an architect in London many years ago and more recently as a private tutor of undergraduate and postgraduate students. During this period of time, I’ve witnessed that he has worked with enthusiasm, creativity and commitment while being able to convey sense of curiosity and desire for acquiring deep knowledge to his students.
Yianni shows to be a critical observer that is able to assess design problems, evaluate options and propose original solutions while encouraging his students to be innovative yet rigorous in their architectural/urban projects and dissertations. I believe that all the above-mentioned skills combined with Yianni' lively personality make him an excellent tutor in his area of expertise.
Great tutor especially ragarding urban design topics with fresh views and original suggestions. Always helpful when was needed and to be honest a quite good value for his services! Definately i would recommend him to any architecture related module.
I've know Yianni for a very long time and can certainly recommend him for tutoring lessons. He is very experienced in the field of Architecture and can easily pass on his knowledge, as he has successfully done in previous tutoring jobs. His many years working in the industry take his abilities a bit further than your average architecture graduate. He is friendly and patient, things I find necessary in teaching positions, as well as being able to explain things in a very clear way.
Yianni has been a good friend for several years now and I know his passion for life, food, travels, architecture and urban design. He's an enthusiastic guy, always cheerful and positive with people which are the perfect ingredients to become a Superprof! I remember the first time I met him: two common friends had designed a (complex) temporary installation for the London Festival of Architecture which had to be assembled in the Showroom I was working in. He offered to come and help us, dedicating his free time and energies. It was a huge challenge but thanks to his light spirit and enthusiasm we had a lot of fun! Yianni loves sharing his knowledge and passion and he would be a great asset to the Superprof community!

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
The interest in architecture, spaces and buildings I had developed since a very early age. I remember during school excursions in local parks, while other kids were playing ball games I instead found myself collecting stones from the fields around and creating house plans on the ground inspired from houses I have visited or lived in. The sense of scale was always so important for me.
Now developing interest for private tutoring aroused mainly from two facts.
The first was when being an undergraduate student, a visiting professor came to Uni and gave a lecture which enchanted me with his method of transmitting knowledge. That clicked on me that one day I would love to do the same.
The second fact is that during my professional career I have attended several project meetings with people from a diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. The smooth outcome and the positive feedback I had from those people encouraged me to understand that I have a high ability to communicate ideas and solve problems both within teams and individuals. Strong communication skills are essential in private tutoring.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
Architecture thankfully is a very vast field which covers most aspects of life. Beyond teaching the fundamentals of form, space, scale and drawing techniques I love discussing with my students social, cultural, natural and philosophical subjects which matter in our lives and we can draw inspiration to further develop our profession based on human needs and diversity.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Even if I drew my inspiration from several factors , my role model have been two world famous architects and urbanists. The Italian Renzo Piano for his ability to make projects that are very site specific and respect the natural climate and topography & the Danish Jan Gehl for his theories on urban design based very much on humanscale factors and relationships.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
Firstly, the love of transmitting knowledge is essential. Being a good listener and having great communication skills also go together.
The teaching methodology should be adaptable and be based on the student character and needs. Having a vision on how things can become is fundamental & having passion and patience is a must!
Finally bringing out the best in a student is my ultimate goal!
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
I was always a dreamer with a high sense of auto-sarcasm that sometimes even my teachers used to tease me for that!
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Architecture initiated thousands of years ago since humans had the need of shelter from the natural elements. Today is far more than that, it reflects the challenges of our own existence on a planet which suffers from climate change and bad use of resources. Sustainability issues and co-living with nature are the challenges we are facing and called to resolve as ethically correct architects of the future.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
People who have known me for years would say travelling is my biggest passion. The need and curiosity of discovering places, cultures and diversity is what drives me through life and still being the primal source of inspiration for my profession.
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?
Being a Superprof is dealing with Super diverse students, what else!!!!! ;-)
