About Amanz
I hold a Masters in Engineering from Imperial College London, and am pursuing a PhD in chemistry (final year). I am here because I want to help you maximise your potential. We can do this by targeting your strengths and weaknesses, revisiting theory to get conceptual understanding, testing the knowledge using past paper questions with and without resources under timed conditions. I am an enthusiastic tutor who aims to bring both academic knowledge as well as promoting enthusiasm in the subject by demonstrating applications. Freelance Tutor: September 2014 - Present; Tutor of maths, further maths and physical sciences in London and Cardiff. Have worked with multiple exam boards including WJEC, AQA, Edexcel and OCR for different exams. UCAS Mentor: September 2017-October 2017, September 2019-October 2019, Cardiff 6th Form College; Academic and pastoral mentor to students applying for Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. Main responsibilities included holding mock interviews, assisting students writing their personal statements and preparing them for admissions tests. Saudi Research Science Institute tutor: June 2019-August 2019, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology; Tutor of five highschool students undertaking the Saudi Research Science Institute program. My role was to complement the student's laboratory experiments with theoretical understanding, aiding the student in interpreting scientific results to effectively communicate their findings in the form of lab journals, presentations, vivas and lab reports. STEM Mentor: September 2015-June 2019, Imperial College London; Ad-hoc role through term-time involved running revision classes and practical demonstrations for students ages 12-16 years old. Key theme was to prepare and encourage students towards STEM subjects at university. Global Summer School Mentor: June 2017-August 2017, Imperial College London; Introduced students to current research being conducted within their chosen department as well as meeting and shadowing the researchers involved. I acted as a mentor for the students as they conducted various small scale engineering projects, undertook personal statement workshops and recreational activities. Lessons with Amanz start with an introductory session to gauge your level and what you want/need from the lessons. Supplementary tutoring involves applying knowledge learnt in your school to exam questions (both the students and external exams). Foundational tutoring involves teaching from the specification to provide detailed notes to transition into a supplementary lesson.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Amanz has supported both our children from year 10 through to year 13. Despite being very different learners, he understood both their needs and kept them fully engaged. Unlike other tutors the children were always very positive about Amanz and their lessons.
He also provided great feedback to us as parents.
I’m convinced they would not have done as well if it wasn’t for Amanz!
I would wholeheartedly recommend him as a tutor.Amanz was my tutor during a research internship where we spent 6 weeks working on a small research project at the KAUST University. This internship required a rigorous understanding of the chemistry behind the polymers used in enzymatic fuel cells.
