About Russ
Teaching provides a specific clarity that performance alone does not offer. The truth is that I find the technical demands of violin education as rewarding as performing with the New York Philharmonic. My home studio in Seattle serves a diverse group ranging from 4-year-old beginners to high schoolers preparing for college auditions.
My curriculum integrates music theory, sight reading, and rigorous preparation for ABRSM or Trinity exams. I emphasize left hand agility, rhythm, and accurate timing to build a solid foundation. Whether guiding students through scales, arpeggios, or shifting positions, I ensure they learn to tune by ear effectively. I truly enjoy seeing the progress made by my students over time.

Progress requires precise tracking. A monthly report shared with parents documents every milestone and area for improvement during our 10.0 level RCM coaching.
My 13 years of experience allow me to identify exactly what a student requires to refine their orchestral playing skills during our work together. I combine technical discipline with an encouraging environment to address the specific needs of students working through Grades 1 through 10 and ARCT. We focus on the nuances of the violin to ensure every note rings true. This structured approach helps ensure you reach your specific musical target with confidence and speed.
