About Jacob
My name is Jacob; I am 28 years old. Recently, I have decided on a complete career change and made the big decision to leave my job and start studying.
I have been interested in the mind since being diagnosed with ADHD. Anyone with ADHD will know the struggles of day-to-day life: The Brain Fog Day, The Lack of Focus Day, The Extremely Focused Day, The Unmotivated Day, or my least favourite one, The All of The Above In One Day. It can be demoralising, causing feelings of insecurity, frustration, and anger.
I tried medication, therapy, and lots of other techniques. They all worked in their own way and can be phenomenally helpful. However, nothing worked in the fundamental way that meditation did. It built a strong foundation that allowed me to just be less bothered by my Neurodevelopmental disorder, and for me, that was the biggest shift. Although my ADHD hasn't changed, my relationship with it has.
Unfortunately, I think meditation also carries a spiritual trail, which can be brilliant for some. But, for others (like me) who don't fall into that category, it can feel that it may not benefit them or they are put off altogether by the years of pseudoscience and horror stories of cult leaders.
I would like to say that although there are some spiritual words in my teachings (mainly because there are limited words to describe the experiences you get in meditation without some spiritual words), I try to take spirituality out of the equation. I truly believe this can help a lot of people like it has helped me. I think we need it now more than ever.
I am interested in physics, neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, meditation, surfing, reading, and traveling

I like to teach mainly Vipassana, this is a Thervadan Buddhist technique, which concentrates on the sensations of the body. This a good technique for adapting your mind to the separation between sensations and emotions e.g Anxiety and the tightness that it originates from.
I once struggled with anxiety, depression and insecurities and having ADHD only exacerbated the problem. I'm not saying that the aforementioned completely went away but I am able to witness them as sensations a lot more regularly now and actually the times they do arise is rare.
Meditation is not the panacea we seem to always want, but it can allow us not to be so invested in the need to fix all our problems, and paradoxically when we stop feeling the need to fix all our problems, the usually start to fade away.
