About Joni
Singers seeking to become self-sufficient in the audition room often struggle with basic piano skills. I recall standing at a keyboard in NYC feeling the pressure to play and sing simultaneously during a cold read.
My BMus degree and 11 years of experience have helped 173 students gain this exact independence. I teach accompaniment, sight reading, chord voicing, and sight transposition for busy performers.
We also explore jazz improvisation and classical repertoire to round out your musicality. Preparing for ABRSM or Trinity exams is another area where I provide structured, clear guidance. My playful yet technique-focused approach makes these skills accessible for every vocalist.

Truthfully, I prefer to simplify complex theory into playable patterns. I break down your repertoire into manageable chord voicings first. Sight reading follows to build your visual literacy quickly. We use my 6.0 years of specific keyboard teaching experience to solve rhythm issues.
Technical drills for your hands happen early in the session. You will practice sight transposition to handle tricky keys on the fly.
I verify your progress through consistent, active playing. My background in BMus performance ensures you learn efficient practice habits. I am excited to see your progress at the keys.
