I rely solely on an approach that (verbally and more importantly- mentally) involves the student directly. Education is not mere rot learning (Mugging up of concepts), but a proper understanding of the reason behind events that unfolded in the past or might do so in the upcoming future. This is a wholesome learning process.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I have always been an avid reader. Especially when it came to literature and humanities. I loved how the world around us evolved to give us what we have today. This further led to a deep sense of appreciation for the field of study that I involved myself in. Language, Communication and Thought has not just become an integral part of our daily lives, but a necessity of the 21st century. It is an in demand skill for education, employment and a progressive career.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I have always idolised Dr. Tharoor for multiple reasons. My sessions have always had his vision of a well formed mind as the driving force. Rational and a good command over communication to express better to an audience or 2 or 2000 has been a general and persistent motive. I plan to get students just there.
  • How does your work help society?

Four years of teaching has brought me close to a number of students from diverse backgrounds and multiple needs. Listening to their stories have assured me of my contributions in their lives. It gives me a sense of purpose listening to the issues they face on a daily basis - at work places, schools and home. It reminds me of my responsibilities as a mentor and trainer.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

Dr. Kalam has always been an inspiration. He kept his contributions flowing out despite retirement or a busy schedule in the government of India. He remains a visionary scientist, philosopher and teacher. My inspirations in the field of teaching comes from his methods of giving millions of minds a new perspective to look at the world and not just facts. He developed lives more than he developed minds. That remains to be my aim.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

I love reading. From early on in life I picked up books and have never let go. I enjoy critically acclaimed web series that give me a good time learning the various aspects of life from the perspective of these memorable characters. I have a blog that I update regularly ( www.parshwa999.wix.com/blog/ ).
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

I had a student who struggled with the Civil Services for a long time. He had very few attempts left and approached me for some help in language. Few years down the line, I received a call from the IAS officer that called me ‘Sir'! That's one of the most memorable moments thus far. I was delighted to have come to aid of a civil servant who would go on to serve millions. To be a small part of his journey was a fulfilling experience.
