About Desmond

I've traveled and lived in China Mainland, Taiwan, America and Singapore. Currently living in Texas, USA. I like to listen to different types of music with my library of massive playlist, while doing reading or geek out with my Switch or Steam Deck. Movies, series and anime are also a must, even better when over a good, cold pint(only after sundown). Hiking is a must when I have the opportunity every time when I visit back in Taiwan. Bowling, table tennis, billiards and golf are sports I'd prefer(mix with a good, cold pint works better LOL). "The smaller the ball is, the lesser chances to be thrown WITH the ball." Have a German Shepherd, a Border Collie and a Russian Blue at home, so they might often appear with my "good girl, it's ok" or "no, don't do that" throughout the lesson. I have 4 years of experience in teaching English and Mandarin as a private tutor for foreign talents with their HSK in both China Mainland and Taiwan, as well as teaching primary school kids with their entry bilingual skills. And during the past year, I've just restarted my private tutoring in Texas to teach locals Mandarin.

About the lesson

To reach the purpose for your study of Mandarin, it can be dull and repeating at times. But through my way of teaching can definitely give you a little bit of joy and surprise. But I do believe with a good technique of study requires a certain degree of hard work, repeating, and finally, HSK(HSKK) or YSK every step along the way. Just to show the miracle work that both of us as a team achieving every goal. Over the years of tutoring, I've gathered the secrets to learn is by motivations and fun. And with a language that was passed from such rich and treasuring history, topics of interest won't be a short list for us to have a good laugh from time to time. That's why, my lessons are more custom made for every individual student, depending on your understanding of Chinese culture to start and the goals you'll want to achieve. You can learn Simplified Chinese and its PinYin for official use and even prep for HSK(HSKK) or YSK, then we can slowly graduate to Traditional Chinese and ZhuYin just for extra interest, by your own choice.
