About Verena
Hi! I’m Verena, a Columbia University student and English tutor with 4 years of teaching experience. Teaching is a big part of my everyday life, and I’ve taught both online and in person to students ranging from 7 to 76 years old.
I’ve taught ESL, grammar, reading, writing, conversation, and essay writing, and I’ve also helped students prepare for the SAT. I genuinely love what I do and especially enjoy meeting new people from different backgrounds.
I recently moved from New York City to Serbia, where I’m enjoying life abroad with my husband, who was previously my long-distance fiancé. Outside of teaching, I’m usually spending time with our two cats! I’m friendly, patient, and always happy to help students feel more confident in English.

I believe English is easiest to learn when you feel comfortable making mistakes and asking questions. I have 4 years of experience teaching English and I adapt my lessons to each student and their goals.
My lessons are relaxed and interactive. We might work on grammar, reading, spelling, essay writing, or conversation depending on what you need. I usually start with a quick review, introduce something new, practice it together, and then finish with exercises or conversation.
I work with both ESL students and students who already speak English but want to improve their skills. Whether you need help with school, writing, work, or everyday English, I’ll make the lessons fit your level and learning style.
