About Viola

With over a decade of experience in India and Ireland as a music educator, I’m passionate about nurturing a genuine love for music and guiding students in reaching their full potential in a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. I believe music is a universal language — a powerful means of expression and a refuge in today’s fast-paced world. Here, music isn’t treated as a competition but as a journey of self-discovery, creativity, and emotional connection. Students are encouraged to compose, explore, and express freely — with no judgment — discovering what truly resonates with them.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

Music is a universal language that brings communities together. It is a creative art that allows the freedom to choose music that makes you tingle from within and be yourself without being judged. This quality of this field is what was most attractive and I wanted to pass on this feeling of freedom to others.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

Earlier my motivation was to have something of my own over working a 9-5. But over time teaching became something I love dearly. It is heartwarming to see students grow in an environment that is designed to allow not just musical development but also to freely ask questions, make new friends, work on their creativity, suggest tasks for their own improvement and moreover be themselves and bring out their true personalities freely.
  • How does your work help society?

Having the skill to teach well by itself is a blessing and to share the knowledge and experience without gatekeeping is a choice. In this era where the upcoming generation is going to face a sudden drop in job opportunities, working on a skill they can use to earn in the future is the need of the hour. Learning this skill with a teacher that encourages education without withholding knowledge and encourages students to explore teaching opportunities too is the way to go.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

As a person who values creativity, presence of mind and the skill to be an impromptu musician, I look up to all creative artists who possess these qualities along with the skill to be patient with people who are intrigued by them.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside of teaching I like to sit in silence and reflect, especially while driving, it has been the best way for me to unwind. Cooking new recipes, going on treks or just watching intriguing movies are also some of my hobbies.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

In my 15+ years of teaching there is one story that stands out the most to me, something that took me by pleasant surprise and stayed. A student of mine was struggling academically and would barely score a little above the passing percentage. She was studying piano with me at that time for a few years but was struggling with confidence as well. Suddenly in her 12th boards she scored a 75% which was a huge achievement for her. She was as surprised and elated as me. That's when I realised the claims that music has the potential to rewire the brain to boost concentration, improve motor skills, build confidence and so much more are all true.
