About RAMYA
Ramya Nagaraja is a dancer, educator and choreographer based in Bangalore, India with 25 years experience in the field. She studied the Indian classical dance form Kathak under legendary teachers Guru Dr Maya Rao and Guru Chitra Venugopal.
Ramya is trained in Indian contemporary dance under Guru Madhu Nataraj, Director of NIKC and the STEM Dance Kampni and is now the Assistant Director with of the Kampni, performing across India and internationally. She is passionate about lighting, costume design, stage technology and keeps abreast of new trends in these fields.
Ramya is Head of faculty at the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, teaching children and adult batches and taking classes for the diploma programme. Under the mentorship of Madhu Nataraj, she has designed dance syllabi for various programmes at different educational institutions- both mainstream & for under privileged Children, networking with many cultural institutions, corporate organisations, festival organisers and the government for events showcasing Indian dance and culture. She is also the curator of a chamber concert series called Kampni Kutcheri.
Ramya has a Bachelors degree in choreography and a Masters in history. She is also trained in yoga, Bharatanatyam and Indian martial art forms and Indian Folk forms.
Ramya is always looking to augment her vast experience through research, pedagogy and interactions with as wide a spectrum of artistes as possible. She adopts Natya and STEM’s philosophy of collaboration to expand her horizons as well as to push boundaries in the arts.
