About Jess

I recently graduated from Rose Bruford with a 1st Class BA Hons in Acting and I have been a National Youth Theatre Member for over 5 years. I also completed courses at Guildford School of Acting and Central School of Speech and Drama.

In my previous job I was a student drama school audition panellist and I helped the tutors decide which applicants to offer recalls and places to. We talked a lot about the different qualities and techniques that are important in drama school applicants and because of this, I know what kind of audition preparation is most beneficial for auditionees.
When I first applied to drama schools I auditioned at a variety of different schools and therefore have a wide understanding of what different schools look for.

As well as all of the above, I have been a member of the National Youth Theatre for over 5 years assisting at their auditions and on their intake courses. I was also cast in one of their productions which went up to Edinburgh Fringe in 2019. I believe I have a great awareness of what National Youth Theatre are looking for in their applicants too.

About the lesson

All of my sessions will be tailored to you.
Whether you are in your first or fourth year of auditioning for drama school, whether you know exactly what speeches you want to do or have no idea, we will work together to find what shows you in your best light.Each session will focus on something different and in the first we will talk about what you need and what suits your learning style best.

I have a wide range of speeches and a huge database of plays that we can look through to find a variety of speeches that suit your strengths as an actor. We will then workshop the speech. This will involve working through the text and discovering what the characters intentions and objectives are and where the gear changes and beats are. We will also look at the actors toolkit as well as many other techniques and exercises.

It is very important to me that we work in a way that suits you best and therefore at the end of each session we will have a chat about what you want to cover in the next session and I will suggest what I think would be useful to work on. I will also provide written feedback regularly so you can continue to work on the speeches outside of our sessions if you wish.
