Teaching Methodology & Techniques
My teaching style is student-centered, adaptable, and rooted in active learning. I begin by assessing each student’s strengths, challenges, and goals. Whether it’s essay writing, literary analysis, grammar, or speaking confidence, I tailor my sessions to meet individual needs. I use a blend of the Socratic method (asking questions to spark critical thinking), scaffolding (breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps), and real-world examples to make learning both rigorous and relevant. I also emphasize revision, clarity, and structured feedback so students learn how to improve independently over time.
Typical Lesson Plan
A standard 60-minute lesson includes:
Warm-up (5–10 minutes): A short review or low-stakes activity to re-engage prior knowledge or introduce the day’s topic.
Core Skill Focus (30–35 minutes): This could be analyzing a passage, outlining an essay, or working through grammar or style exercises. I model the process first, then guide students through practice with real-time feedback.
Application/Discussion (10–15 minutes): Students apply the skill in a personalized way, such as drafting a thesis or responding to a prompt. We often discuss interpretations or writing strategies.
Wrap-up & Takeaways (5 minutes): I summarize key points and provide follow-up tasks or reflection questions.
What distinguishes me as a tutor is my blend of academic rigor and empathy. I focus not just on what students learn, but how they feel while learning. I create a supportive space where students can take risks, ask questions, and develop their own voice. I also bring a deep understanding of literature, theory, and writing mechanics, backed by experience tutoring students across disciplines—from high school English to undergraduate humanities courses.
My lessons are best suited for High school students (grades 9–12) preparing for English exams, essays, and literary analysis.
University/college students working on critical essays, thesis statements, close readings, or research writing.
Adult learners or non-native speakers looking to improve formal writing, grammar, or academic reading comprehension.
