About Sebastian
Hello! I am Sebastian, a senior at UC Berkeley double majoring in astrophysics and physics. I have had a deep passion for physics and astronomy for as long as I can remember and much of my free time is spent doing amateur astronomy with my own telescope. I want nothing more than to help others develop an appreciation for the fields I love by developing their understanding. For this reason I spent years running outreach events at the university where I got to share my knowledge of the universe with others. At the events I would show people objects through the telescopes as well as answer any questions about how the universe works! In the same vein I greatly enjoyed teaching people how to solve physics and astronomy problems in the intro to astronomy course. This also necessarily involved helping students develop a greater understanding of math as it is the language of physics.
Because anyone, even non-stem majors, could attend these outreach events or enroll in the class I became very used to interacting with people with all levels of knowledge. I found that helping people understand concepts and processes as a whole rather than drilling specific problems gave greater appreciation and understanding of the material. All I would like to do is continue spreading that appreciation!

I focus on tutoring high school math and physics including calculus as well as lower division physics and astronomy. I aim to start from what the student already knows and use their previously existing intuition to build further understanding while correcting prior misconceptions. In this way the student is guided into building their own deeper understanding of the material. An emphasis is placed on understanding a process as a whole so that any gaps in knowledge can be inferred from what is known.
