About David
I am a recent college graduate who worked in my college's writing center for two and a half years, eventually becoming a shift supervisor. Additionally, I provided one-on-one tutoring for a struggling student bi-weekly one semester, and during another I acted as the Peer Mentor for an incoming class of freshmen in their "First Year Seminar" course. I was also chosen to lead the "Crafting an Argument" co-curricular presentation provided by our writing center for both semesters of my senior year.
Since then I have continued to tutor writing part-time. I have had experience with all manner of students, and have maintained a 4.5 out of 5 average rating with those I have tutored. I have helped students with all sorts of essays and other writing assignments, but my personal areas of expertise include politics, philosophy, religion, logic, creative writing, and screenwriting.

Although I am proficient with English grammar and am happy to help edit essays for grammatical mistakes, my emphasis in tutoring is to analyze the structure of a paper. Does the assignment have a thesis, does it have evidence to back that thesis up, and is the evidence presented in a way that makes it easy for a reader to follow the writer's train of thought? These are the questions I seek to answer first when I look at a paper. If the answer to any of them is "no," the first thing I usually recommend is structural readjustment. Often this will involve me helping my student to draw up a new outline for the paper that will more effectively get the point across. Then I will help the student to take what is already in the paper and implement it within the new framework.
Even better, I can help students to brainstorm for ideas and draw up an outline BEFORE they start writing, so that when they do they will be able to keep their papers focused. As a tutor, nothing gives me greater joy than helping a student get motivated to start writing; to find something about the assignment to get invested in. If I can do that, then I have done my job well.
