About Ethan
Hello! My name is Ethan. I'm an academic research librarian, a tutor, a historian, and the kindest, most patient person you'll meet! I believe first and foremost that my compassion and empathy make me an especially patient and effective learning partner. Of course, to be a good tutor you need more than just patience and kindness; you also need academic expertise and experience. Over the last 20 years, I have compiled plenty of both. I have earned two bachelor's degrees (in business, and in history) and two master's degrees (in history, and in library science). I now work as an academic research consultant and tutor; and, as such, spend a great deal of my time teaching, helping students organize their research and essays, studying new topics for fun, or learning how to be a better tutor, a better writer, and (most importantly) a better human being.

My philosophy for teaching is that the most important thing I can do as a tutor is to listen to you, the student. What do you want, what do you already know, what is your learning style, how quickly or slowly do you prefer to move, etc.? It is a philosophy grounded in kindness and patience. Yes, I know how cheesy that sounds! I just have no other way of explaining my lessons. It is so important to me that all my students are comfortable, interested, and engaged in what we do. The only way I can do that is to, first and foremost, always be especially kind, positive, patient, and fun. That is not enough, of course - it is just a foundation that every tutor and teacher should work from. The other way that I ensure students feel comfortable, listed-to, and happy with all that they are learning is to customize not just what I teach, but HOW I teach it to each student.
I am an expert in all of the areas listed on my profile and many more (feel free to ask if you would like me to tutor another subject), but I am especially skilled in helping students understand where to start when they are tasked with writing research papers or essays. It is one of the joys of my life to see my students achieve excellence not only in their current assignments but also in the general skills of writing and researching. I love knowing that they will be served by these accomplishments throughout their academic careers and beyond.
As an aside, since it can be difficult to find tutors for graduate-level work and above, I should mention that I have plenty of experience working with graduate students at the highest level. If you need help with any aspect of a thesis or Ph.D. dissertation, I love challenges and would be happy to help. Of course, I also love helping students in high school just as much! Honestly, So long as I make a positive contribution to the success of my students and to humanity as a whole, I will be a happy camper.
If you have any questions at all, or if you would like to schedule a free consultation/lesson to get started, please don't hesitate to write. I am exceptionally kind and love helping new students!

Ethan and I taught together here in North Carolina. Even with all his experience aside, he is one of those rare types of people who are just natural born teachers. Of course, that requires expertise in the field and excellent communication, but Ethan is also very empathetic, extremely perceptive, patient, insightful and intelligent. You won't just be a better writer after a session with Ethan, you'll be inspired too!
Over the course of several years, I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Margolis, including more recently, in his role as the Evening Reference Librarian at Shepard Library. I often invited Ethan to my classes to demonstrate and lecture on the reference interview. He was a superb librarian and a superb student of mine, when earning his MLS from North Carolina Central University.
I would like to give Mr Margolis my unqualified endorsement for a position with your organization as he has proven himself to be a highly responsible, intelligent, and selflessly motivated individual at NCCU, as well as an excellent teacher. I give him my highest recommendation.
Among our librarians at North Carolina Central University (NCCU), Mr. Margolis was respected and very well-liked. Many of our students were drawn to Ethan because of his reputation for being genuinely interested in helping them learn and do well. Ethan was a very dedicated and distinguished member of the library staff. He has served as an informal advisor to many students and is known to be a wise and thoughtful man. Ethan always had the students' best interests at heart. He has an impressive capacity for intellectual thought and analysis, but he is also able to relate to people on a personal, practical level. He has the highest ethical standards and can be trusted with sensitive matters. He possesses a keen ability to express himself clearly through oral and written presentations, and is able to explain complicated concepts and ideas in simple, comprehensible ways. He has demonstrated that he is interested in the success of others and has always displayed a pleasant, positive, congenial, and mature attitude with a high professional standard of interaction and collaboration.
Ethan's dedication and hard work throughout his time at NCCU indicate to me that he will be able to achieve whatever objectives stand before him and that he will do excellent work for you in whatever capacity he finds himself. I respect him and am happy to recommend him.Ethan is a stellar instructor. You will not find anyone better. He goes out of his way to assist his students.
Ethan is an excellent instructor. He has a vast curiosity about all things science. He is well read and conversational. He also has great compassion for the whole person and he uses that to bring out the best in students!
