About Nilson

After college, I realized that being in a learning environment was something I had a passion for. What better way to remain in this environment than to educate others? I started teaching in Boston at Cambridge Public Schools with students from different backgrounds. I worked at Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown MA which was incredibly rewarding in its own way. I moved to Florida in 2019 and have been teaching at the elementary level ever since. I believe that learning needs to be fun and engaging while meeting the students' needs wherever they are at in their academic background. I am looking for students who are eager to learn and put their best effort every time they meet with me, as I will do the same. To get to know you I would like to meet you via Zoom to get to understand your strengths and weaknesses so that I can best assist you. Please let me know how I can help and I will do my best!

About the lesson

I’m an experienced elementary educator with over a decade of teaching in K–6 classrooms, specializing in math, reading, writing, science, and foundational learning skills. My approach blends research-based instruction with the warmth, patience, and structure that help children feel confident and capable.
I’ve supported hundreds of students in building strong academic foundations, closing learning gaps, and developing the study habits that set them up for long-term success. Parents often tell me their child becomes more motivated, more independent, and more confident after spending time learning with me.

I specialize in teaching- but am not limited to
• Math - the four main operations, number sense, problem solving, fluency, shapes recognition and attributes, area and perimeter
• Reading - phonics, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary,
• Writing - grammar, structure, paragraphing, creative writing
• Science - elementary concepts, inquiry skills, vocabulary
• Homework support and executive function coaching
• Reading groups

I use clear explanations, guided practice, and targeted feedback so students understand why something works — not just how to get the answer
